Bike parades, rides, crawls – they’re all contributing to our society’s growing appreciation for bike culture, and we couldn’t be happier about the way they’re being embraced. City Bicycle Co is based out of Sacramento, but we’re lucky to have friends and advocates all over the nation who participate in these types of community events.
We must admit we have a soft spot for Los Angeles, given its vibrant culture, music scene, and outdoor lifestyle. A close friend of ours attended CicLAvia last weekend, an event that embraces the outdoors as a public space. CicLAvia is held all around LA and “catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free street events.” Sunday’s event took place in Pasadena amid the shopping mecca that is Colorado Boulevard. It was CicLAvia’s most walkable event to date, and a great way for Angelenos to kick off the summer, get some shopping in while being active, and admire all the historic architecture native to Pasadena.
Our friend chose to dive in with his Type One bike, which is a great bike for coasting. We love to see our bikes serving a practical function, like commuting to work, but we’re even happier when we see them being used as a means to enjoy life, become more social, and engage with the cycling community. We hope this summer you’ll check out CicLAvia or another event that gives you a rush of adrenaline or the warm fuzzy feelings you get by becoming part of your bike community.
